Nationals in a Nutshell

national parent forum of scotland

Not sure what’s meant by ‘National’ level qualifications?  These are the coming recastings of the SQA Intermediates and Highers across all disciplines.  To help us understand them in detail, the National Parent Forum of Scotland are now rolling out a superb set of practical guides to what the Nationals mean in each subject.  See them all here as they come out.

So far they cover Art & Design, Chemistry, Computing Science, English, History, Mathematics, PE, and RMPS.  Tina Woolnough, Communications Officer, advised us yesterday that four new Nutshells will appear each week.  Next to appear will be Music, Graphic Communication, Biology, and Modern Languages.  The following batch (early April) will be Geography, Modern Studies, Business, and Physics.

She says the Forum are delighted with the enthusiasm with which the Nutshells have been received and welcome feedback.  Harald Tobermann, our own PC chair, who has a daughter in S3, says these Nutshells are ‘exactly the kind of information parents need’.  He adds, ‘knowing what my daughter is about to learn provides me with conversation starters which are not always easy to come by during the teenage years.’
