Broughton HS Association meeting – Weds 7th June, 7.30pm

Broughton High School Association meeting – 7.30pm on Wednesday 7th June. Please note the change of day! We meet in-person at The Place (Rugby Club cafe on Raeburn Place, just round the corner from the school).

We will be discussing the chess cafes later in June and ideas for future fundraising.

BHSA events and initiatives have benefited every single pupil at Broughton, from paying for S1 school ties to essential Modern Languages equipment, the school garden, support for sports teams and much more.

Our meetings are friendly and informal and we would love to see some new faces there! We are keen to get parents from S1-S4 involved in running our events and coming up with new ideas.

For more information please email Lesley at: bhsassociation@gmail.com.

Parent Council meeting Mon 29th May in school garden

Our last PC meeting of the school year will be held in the beautiful school garden (weather permitting – we’ll be in the staff room if it rains!). All parents/carers are welcome to join us to hear updates from the school Senior Leadership Team and from the various PC subgroups.

We will have teas/coffees available and opportunities to chat from 5.30pm and the meeting will start at 6pm.

You will find the garden at the Fettes Avenue (Waitrose) side of the school grounds. Come past the bike sheds and basketball court to the side of the school.

All parents and carers of young people at Broughton High are welcome to attend. We would love to see you – everyone on the Parent Council brings something different and unique and we always welcome new voices who share our passion for the school, our young people, and the community that we are at the heart of.

Our current clerk and treasurer/comms lead will be leaving the committee after this meeting so we are seeking new committee members! Info is available on the Volunteer Opportunities page of our website: https://broughtonhighpc.org/volunteer-opportunities/ or message us at intouch@broughtonhighpc.org if you’d like to chat with the current post holders.

Volunteers needed – chess cafes Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June

On Saturday 24 June and Sunday 25 June, Broughton High School is hosting the UK Chess Challenge Scottish Gigafinal http://www.ljc.org.uk/new-events

This event provides a great opportunity to raise money for the school fund by running a cafe for participants and their parents over the two days. The school fund pays for things that would not normally be covered by the School or the Council e.g. the S1 school ties, sports strips, school trips and other educational activities. We’ve had a number of requests for funding recently and so we really need to raise more money.

To make this event a success we need as many volunteers as possible, to help with the cafe and to provide home baking.

If you can spare an hour or two between 9am and 3.30pm and/or can provide home baking, please add your name to the rota (link below) or reply to this email.

Please forward this email to any other parents who might be able to help out.

If you haven’t helped at the cafe before, it involves serving hot drinks, juice, home baking, soup and rolls. We take cash but we also have a card machine.  It’s not a demanding job and is a great opportunity to meet other parents!

Thank you in advance.

With best wishes,

Lesley Kelly
Chair of the Broughton High School Association

Online Q&A for parents/carers of P7 pupils – Thurs 18th May 6.30pm

The Parent Council are hosting a Zoom call for anyone whose P7 child is planning to come to Broughton High in August. A chance to ask questions of parents whose children are currently at the school. Moving up to high school is a big moment for parents as well as young people – we understand that and no question is too small for us to consider.

Thursday 18th May at 6.30pm on Zoom.

To book a place and get the joining information, email Emily and Jane at: intouch@broughtonhighpc.org .

If you can’t attend the meeting but have a question, just send us an email. You might also find the FAQs page on our website useful: https://broughtonhighpc.org/frequently-asked-questions-for-new-parents-carers-at-broughton-high/
