Foreign language speakers wanted
Broughton is appealing for help from parents who speak a foreign language in holding employability workshops for primary pupils.
On 9th May, 2018, the school will be holding a Languages and Employability event for its cluster primary schools. All 200 P6 students (age 10) will take part in the event that morning, with final timings to be confirmed. There will be 10 workshops and the pupils will attend approximately four.
Pamela Tosh, curriculum leader for Modern Languages at Broughton High School, said: “I would be very keen to hear from any parent who uses a language in their job and who might be willing to do a little workshop with a group of pupils. Alternatively are there any parents who might not use a language themselves but who work for a company which uses languages in other aspects of its business.
“The languages the pupils learn are French, Spanish and Mandarin but any languages would be welcome.”
She added: “All the workshops will have an employability theme. The aim of the event is to help the pupils begin to make connections between the languages they are learning at school and their use in the future. We want them to see that as well as learning a language for its own sake, they can also be very useful in the world of work.”
So far there are five confirmed workshop presenters confirmed.
