calling all parents and carers — new study!
The Children & Families Department are seeking groups of parents/carers or teenagers who may be interested in contributing to the development of training around supporting teenagers mental health and emotional well-being. This would build on the already successful Raising Children With Confidence course but would be aimed at parents of teenagers and include the latest research and theories around adolescent brain development and behaviours. In order to inform the development of this programme, they are seeking the views of parents and carers of teenagers across the city.
Since the Children & Families Department appear to desire groups of parents and carers, who will participate in the study in blocs, please, if you are interested, contact the Broughton Parent Council in the first instance, at our usual ‘intouch’ address; if do we get a group interested, we will pass on the names together.
We hope there is some uptake on this. It could be a very useful study indeed!

Just wanted to let you know that William won the Scottish bouldering championships last Saturday in Glasgow!

Some interesting facts about this year’s activity, with 1 more month to go before the financial year end:
• Two of the winners this month are former head teachers.
• At least 9 members will end the year with a clear profit.
• 8 of these are ladies.
• At least 3 members will profit by more than £20 over the year.
• The biggest winner this year (by far!) is Maggie Rosario, with 6 wins and a £40 profit (so far!).
• No surprise, Maggie also has the longest winning streak — but after winning five months in row, none of her numbers came up this month!
• A further 12 people have won twice, and 2 more have won 3 times.
• In all, 39 people have won something this year, out of 63 members.
• Current surplus generated so far is £1,701, which will likely rise to £1,850 next month. That’s some fundraising! Why not give it a go yourself?
Isla Ratcliff’s musical triumphs
Isla has won the Amnesty International Songwriting competition, reports Tudor Morris, of the Music School.
She has just had a blog published about her artistic inspiration for the piece, in the Huffington Post.
She also features on the STV website.
Radio 1 has also interviewed Isla for a programme to be broadcast in September.
As if that weren’t enough, Isla played with Karine Polwart at a gig in the Edinburgh University Students’ Union on Sunday.
And she has been accepted to attend the Oxford University Summer School for music.
Well done, Isla — you’re doing us proud!
two up-and-coming S5’s
Congratulations and very well done to Daniel McIvor and Brandon McFarlane. Both S5 students have been successful in gaining a place on the Ernst and Young school ‘Internship’.
This will take place at the end of June.
