Here is a note circulated this week by Graham Douglas, Administrative Officer in the Parental Involvement Unit, Schools and Community Services, City of Edinburgh Council:
‘On 21 March 2012, the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning announced additional support for secondary schools, reached in agreement with the EIS, around preparation for the new National Qualifications. Included in this support is provision of two additional In-Service Days.
Following discussion with secondary Head Teachers and teaching unions, the following dates were agreed as the additional In-Service Days for secondary schools:

Public speaking for schools?
What’s an advantage private school pupils may have over state school pupils, come graduation time? Debating experience and a lot of interview coaching, says Stephen Twigg, shadow education secretary. He says public speaking should be a formal part of the national curriculum. Read about his proposal, which he hopes will help level the odds for all young job-seekers, here.
Lastest issue of ‘Teen Titles’ now in the Library
The latest issue of ‘Teen Titles’ has just arrived in the Library. As ever, it is full of reviews of the latest books for teenagers, and all the reviews are the honest and unedited opinions of teenagers.
This issue features Calum Munro, Connor Bennet and Alex Marshall’s interview of Don Calame, author of ‘Swim The Fly’.
