New Clerk appointed for Parent Council

Advertising through our new social media channels this term turned up an astonishing number of interested and highly qualified candidates for our recently vacated position of Parent Council Clerk.  Having considered them all for some weeks, we have now appointed our new Clerk.  Welcome, Fiona Cassidy!  She will help run the operational side of the Parent Council, ensuring such things as recording of minutes and the publishing of agendas.
This follows many years of dedicated service by Iain McDonald, to whom we extend our sincere thanks for his long support.
Fiona’s big task at the moment is helping the Communications team ensure that all website records are up-to-date.

Broughton High School Parent Council
Vacancy – Clerk to the Parent Council

We wish to appoint a new Clerk to support the Parent Council (PC).

The Clerk supports the Chair of the PC by looking after the administration before, during and after the PC meetings, as well as dealing with any correspondence and other administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the PC.

They must have (or build up) a working knowledge of the PC constitution, and support the Chair in the correct operation of the PC. They must attend the PC meetings, but may not be a voting member of the PC.

City of Edinburgh Council provide funds which allow us to make a payment of up to £40 for each PC meeting attended / supported. The actual level of payment will be agreed with the successful applicant, depending on the extent of services provided.

Duties of the Clerk include:

• preparing the PC meeting schedule and making necessary bookings
• preparing an agenda in advance of each meeting
• publicising meetings / agendas to the school community in good time
• maintaining a record of attendance at PC meetings
• dealing with PC correspondence on behalf of the PC
• preparing minutes of PC meetings, recording all decisions and actions, and maintaining a historic record of all PC meetings
• circulating minutes to PC members, local Councillors, Parental Involvement Unit, school notice board and local library
• notifying the Parental Involvement Unit of any changes to the PC (eg change of office bearers or contact details).

Applications for the post of Clerk to the PC, or queries regarding the post, should be addressed to the PC Chair, and submitted via the email address intouch@broughtonhighpc.org, or handed in to the Reception desk at school.

Staffing update, from John Wilson

Three significant appointments have been made this week. I wish to inform you of these. In chronological order:

1) The post of Curriculum Leader, Mathematics and Numeracy. This is a permanent post. Zak Sweeney, currently CL Maths at TynecastleHigh School, has been offered this post, subject to satisfactory references and PVG clearance. Zak was delighted to accept my verbal offer. He will take up post once he serves his notice period.

2) The post of Curriculum Leader, Health and Well-being. This is a fixed-term post to cover Sarah Thomas’ maternity leave. Andy McAdam has been offered this post and has accepted the offer. Andy will officially take up post when Sarah’s leave commences.

3) The post of Pupil Support Leader. This is a permanent post. Murray Cockburn, currently PSL at Forrester High School, has been offered this post, subject to satisfactory references and PVG clearance. Murray was very pleased to accept my verbal offer. He will take up post once he serves his notice period.
