P7 Interactive Parents Evening Thursday 28th November 2013

teenagers

P7 parents and carers, you can be as anxious as your youngsters are, about the coming high school experience. For you and your kids about to make the jump, we offer an interactive evening of demonstrations and discussions across all subjects and departments, just to make it clear what goes on in high school. Got worries? Got questions? Come see, and come ask. It was a lot of fun last year, with a big turn-out, and it’s going to be even better this year!

So mark your calendars and watch this space for details. We’re really looking forward to meeting you and your young learners.

Science Success at STEM Faraday Challenge Day

stem

We are delighted to report that the six pupils who participated in the Faraday Challenge at Trinity Academy this week have won the trophy on behalf of our school.

The Faraday Challenge Days are cross-curricular activity sessions sponsored by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, pursuant to the national initiative to prepare young people for ‘STEM’ careers, which is to say, jobs in Science, Design and Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. These are held at schools and colleges around the UK and have proved to be enormously popular.

Our science heroes are Robbie Ashdown-Adams (1A3), Neela Hossain (1R1), Lily Intihar (1R3), Jasmine Millington (1R3), John Swanson (1N2), and Alan Widurski (1R2). Please congratulate them (and indeed Fiona Borth who accompanied the students) if you see them!

Sounds Like Saturday is starting up again — can you help?

music notes

The Sounds Like Saturday morning music classes start again this Saturday 28th September. This is Broughton’s hugely successful part in the Edinburgh Council’s ‘Youth Music Initiative’. Can you let us know if you are able to help out this year? The family café always needs volunteers. If you did help last year, a reminder about your availability would be greatly appreciated. Please get in touch directly with convener Hugh Duffy, at hughduffy@blueyonder.co.uk.

reminder: AGM tonight, with S1 parents get-together first!

reminder

Don’t forget, the Parent Council’s annual general meeting is tonight, at the school, at 7:00 p.m. For S1 parents who want to meet each other, there’s a social hour beforehand, at 6:00 (logically enough).

You’re invited to read the reports and accounts beforehand, online, for the detailed view of everything that’s going on.

See you there!
