Chloe McClean 2R3 — our expert highland dancer!
Chloe McClean, who has represented the school through her excellent highland dancing, has been selected as one of the top 30 acts in this year’s Edinburgh’s Got Talent. Chloe has been courageous and confident enough to ask if the school can support her in this competition. Our Headteacher John Wilson supports this exciting prospect, and points out several ways that staff, parents and pupils can support Chloe by voting for her. This website has a full explanation and a video of Chloe’s audition.
Let’s give Chloe our support!
Countdown to Septemberfest!
SeptemberFest 2012 final poster
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday! Here are some visuals from last year. Have a look and we’ll see you there!
Sounds Like Saturday (YMI) cafe — volunteers needed
As part of trying to advertise Broughton High School to the wider community and the potential new pupils from primary schools, the Parent Council run a cafe on Saturday mornings for the City of Edinburgh Council’s ‘Sounds like Saturday’ music classes (formally known as the ‘YMI’).
We are short of cafe volunteers, and are asking if anyone is available to help.
It would take 1 hour of your time, once or twice a month, on a rota.
What are the benefits? It has been proved that this initiative has attracted extra pupils into the school, which means that the school has increased the numbers of pupils attending in a time of falling secondary school rolls and is ultimately able to offer more subjects at higher level.
Can you spare 1 hour on a Saturday morning to help out? If you can, please let Hugh Duffy know, and he’ll be right in touch. His e-mail address is ‘hughduffy@blueyonder.co.uk’.
two parent volunteer writers needed
The City of Edinburgh Council are looking for two parent volunteers to join a short-life group to write a parents’ advice booklet for the senior phase of Curriculum for Excellence. If you are interested in doing this, please get in touch with Angie Arthur, at the Council. Her e-mail address is ‘angie.arthur@edinburgh.gov.uk’.
S1 Information evening this week
The S1 Information Evening is being held on Wednesday 12 September from 4.30-6pm. The event is for parents interested in finding out more about Learning and Teaching in S1 classes and will take the form of a series of short workshops along with some input from the Senior Leadership Team.
Letters were sent home with the S1 pupils last week.
