Want to pass on your skills to our young people?
We just had someone on Parent Council volunteer this week to help S5 and S6 pupils analyze their online reputations — and to calculate the effects on their applications for work, college and university. Businesses, recruiters, and admissions boards all study their applicants’ social media these days. The young people in this week’s group were glad to know this, and wanted to learn more. The S6 pupils also got a workshop on building a CV for success, for which they were very grateful.
Do you have professional skills you could offer our young people? The Parent Council would love to hear from you!
Don’t forget, you can check your PC calendar online!
Just a reminder to busy parents and carers, that you can check all dates of Parent Council meetings (and many school functions) in the ‘Diary‘ calendar within our blog! You’ll find Septemberfest listed there, for example, the S1 parents social, and the AGM and all the other meetings (with agendas and minutes).
This being a Google tool, you can overlay it with your own online private calendar, to help avoid double-bookings! It’s hectic helping a youngster through the school years. We aim to make it that much easier.
budget cuts: what would they mean to education?
Schools are at considerable risk in the coming public-sector budget cuts, many teachers worry. So reports the Scotsman today, referring to a survey by watchdog organization Children in Scotland, the results of which are to be published tomorrow. Teachers, and families too, observe that cuts to education would greatly impede young people’s social mobility, particularly those children in deprived circumstances. Budget discussions will be underway soon, so this is good reading for every parent and carer.
Parent Council AGM on 25 September — with an S1 parents social
Please come to this year’s Parent Council General Meeting, at the school on Wednesday 25th September, 7-8 pm, for reports on prior-year activities, elections, and lots of opportunities to join the Council or one of its sub-groups, like Management Support, the Broughton Association, or Communications.
Prior to the meeting, for S1 parents, is a wine-and-cheese social, from 6-7 pm. It’s very informal, but very useful for getting to know the school and all your fellow parents!
See you there!
