a powerful new resource for the university-bound
How does a family help its anxious leaver decide where to go to university? Some of those destinations are far away, and their prospecti and websites tend to look pretty much the same. But universities aren’t all the same. The resourceful people at LinkedIn have now gathered up all profiles from people involved with universities and made them into LinkedIn University Pages — a hugely efficient way to show what a particular institution is really about! It’s a way of eavesdropping on local culture, so to speak, and no prospectus or website can really offer that. So get your youngster a LinkedIn account (the age limit is going down as of this writing), and let them plug in and see where they really want to go after Broughton!
Please come help with the Comms Committee!
“Communications Committee,” that is. We’re the people who bring you the blog, Facebook, Twitter, and e-mail postings. We’ve had two people redeploy elsewhere, so we’re really needing someone to schedule and record our meetings (there’s only a few a year), and also send out a couple “Mailchimp” e-bulletins (already compiled, just need sending). Everything is set up already and runs fine, so the work level is not onerous, and we work closely together, so you’d never be alone with the task. Would you consider joining us as Comms Committee Coordinator? We’re looking to complete our new website and prospectus projects for the school, so this is an exciting time to be involved! Please have a think about it, and get in touch. How? As always, ‘intouch@broughtonhighpc.org’.
Can’t wait to hear from you!
Septemberfest 2013!
Welcome back to school, everyone!
It’s time for Septemberfest 2013, the Community Festival at Broughton High School!
Mark your calendars for Saturday, 21st September, from 11am to 4pm.
Entry is free, and there’s lots of activities (many of them free too) for all ages.
Like what? Like bouncy castles and inflatables for all ages, plus sumo suits and a massive climbing tower. There’s music and dance, with the samba band, rock choir, drumming group, and dance workshops. You’ll find lots of sports tasters and competitions, too, including football, rugby, fencing, tennis, basketball, korfball, and table tennis. Don’t miss the craft fair, with loads of fantastic handcrafted goods. Come and have a go wet-felting, leather-working, jewellery-making or decoupaging. Get your bike fixed for free and have a go at the bike obstacle course, or try riding a unicycle. Sit in a fire engine and ring the siren. Get into some face-painting, visit the nail bar, have a coconut shy. We’ve even got a fantastic balloon artist, and a henna tattoo lady. You’ll be starving after all that, so the village café will be selling tea and cakes, BBQ, pizza, curry, crepes, and ice cream.
It’s quite a Saturday, so come along and have some fun!
